Description
George Washington Pierce, a graduate of Bowdoin College and a lawyer, was on a trip to various East Coast cities -- Boston, New York, and Philadelphia -- as he considered where to set up a law practice.
He reported to his parents that he received no encouragement in Boston and none in New York and that had he studied law in New York, his prospects there might have been better.
He also planned to travel farther west as he looked for a place to settle.
