Description
George Washington Pierce of Baldwin, on a trip to find a location to settle down and open a law practice, wrote to his parents from Washington, D.C., in December 1828.
He was introduced to "Judge Barton" and "Mr. Bates" of the Missouri delegation and reported on his conversations with them about prospects in Missouri.
He wrote, "As yet I have not seen any of the great curiosites, such as the President -- Clay -- Randolph -- or McDuffie."
