George Washington Pierce, a Portland lawyer, wrote to U.S. Rep. John Anderson, who represented Maine's 2nd District from 1825-33, to gain his support for a bill to obtain a Marine hospital in Portland.
Anderson, like Pierce, was a Democrat.
