Description
U.S. Sen. Ether Shepley of Saco wrote to George Washington Pierce, a Portland lawyer and member of the state Democratic Committee to urge Pierce to make sure the Maine Democrats organized to compete with the opposition party which Shepley described as having "a perfect organization throughout the State extending through Counties, Towns, and School Districts."
He called Pierce the "central member" of the state committee.
