Description
George W. Pierce, studying at school in Saco, wrote to his sister Harriot in Baldwin, about various events at school.
He commented that the school master, Mr. Pratt, had left to see his ill wife. Pierce notes that the students acted toward the replacement teacher as if they "had broken jail."
Pierce studied with private teachers and at various schools before enrolling at Bowdoin College.
