Description
Eleven metal keys for the Alameda Opera House in Bath, which was in operation between 1884 and 1913. "Alameda Opera House 59" is engraved on the front of the disk, and the name Leo C. Huff is scratched on the back of the disk and engraved into three of the keys. Leo Huff was born around 1899 in Woolwich and moved to Bath before the age of ten, working at Bath Iron Works or its subsidiaries until his move to New Hampshire in the mid 1920s. Perhaps Mr. Huff worked a second job at the hall in the last years of the Alameda.
The Alameda first appeared on the Bath tax rolls in 1884 and was originally built as a roller skating rink. Later modifications allowed the large building to be used for agricultural fairs, concerts, political meetings, graduations, theatrical productions, and dances. The building was demolished in 1913, but the Bath Opera House was constructed on the same site by the end of the same year.
