Description
Construction of the Davenport Memorial City Hall in Bath in 1928, with three "sidewalk superintendents" keeping watch. The new city hall, designed by Charles G. Loring of Boston, was dedicated on May 29, 1929.
The scaffolding for the masons and the limestone of the main floor and the columns of the upper floors dominate the image here. The granite of the foundation, front steps and carved block ("Davenport Memorial") over the front entrance reportedly came from the quarries of Hallowell and was furnished by John A. Finn of Lewiston. The door-cap, columns and most of the facade are made of Indiana Limestone.
