Description
Lawn tennis attire in the 1880s as played on a grassy field with the borders of the game drawn in chalk.
Only three figures can be identified. Richard Milliken stands in the rear between the two young ladies. The young man at the right, in white, is J. Vaughan Dennett, and standing next to him is Almira Locke who later married George McArthur. This photograph was taken in the spring of 1888. Vaughan Dennett had returned from a voyage to India (as a mate on a sailing ship) in January of 1888. The sash around his waist was a blue silk sash he had bought in Calcutta. He was not quite 21 years old. The location is not identified, but is probably a field somewhere in Saco.
