Description
Photograph on postcard with the words "Hamlin boulder on the way to Paris Hill" written on the right edge. The boulder was set up on the common in front of Hannibal Hamlin's birthplace. The boulder was moved from an apple orchard off Mink Farm Rd. on the south side of Paris Hill by ten draft horses.
The Military Order of the Loyal Legion and citizens of the town of Paris mounted a bronze tablet on the boulder which begins,"Hannibal Hamlin born near this spot August 27, 1809." The tablet lists Hamlin's elected offices plus "Minister to Spain" and "Friend and Counselor of Lincoln." Then are written the words, "Honoring the Man, the Patriot, the Statesman," followed by the donors of the tablet, and finally the date, "August 27, 1909."
