Description
Portrait of Dr. Cyrus Hamlin wearing Oxford County Sheriff's Jacket by an unknown artist. Cyrus Hamlin studied medicine at Harvard College and began practice in Livermore. He moved to Paris, Maine with his wife and three children in 1806, when he was invited to be Clerk of Courts and later sheriff of Oxford County. His fifth child was born in Paris on Aug. 27, 1809, and named Hannibal after Cyrus' twin brother.
Hannibal Hamlin became Abraham Lincoln's Vice President following the Presidential election of 1860.
