Description
Austin Cary, Bowdoin Class of 1887, from Machias, and Dennis Cole, Bowdoin Class of 1888, from Fryeburg, pose for the camera after their return from the Grand Falls.
Cary and Cole barely made it back to the Julia A. Decker before she left Labrador, and the physical effects of their long journey are clearly seen in their tattered attire and gaunt faces.
The other members of the Bowdoin College Scientific Expedition to Labrador waited anxiously at Rigolet for the two men to return, and were overjoyed to learn the two men were safe and had reached the Grand Falls.
