Description
John Chandler (1762-1841) of Monmouth wrote to William King of Bath, congratulating him on his election as governor in April 1820, shortly after Maine became a state independent of Massachusetts.
He asks King what arrangements he has made for quarters in Portland for the new legislative session and, if has not yet made arrangements, whether he would take Chandler on as a "messmate" and share quarters.
Chandler served as U.S. Senator from Maine from 1820-29.
