Description
Horace True of Turner used this tuning fork for many in his singing schools that he conducted in Turner and surrounding towns.
In 1905, True told the Lewiston Journal, “It was made by our village blacksmith especially to my order, more than fifty years ago.”
The paper reported that it was five times as heavy as any 1905 tuning forks and five times as durable.
True said, “The last singing school I kept was over in Minot and East Hebron. That was just ten years ago, this December to a week. Nobody knows how I miss the schools, these winter evenings, but I’ve got the old singing books and occasionally I get them out and look them over just for old time’s sake----“
