Description
The Eastern Steamship Company Wharf was located near the intersection of Winthrop and Water Streets. The shuttle steamer Della Collins picked up passengers and carried them to the Boston boat in Gardiner. Travelers from Chelsea could connect with the shuttle by way of the Chelsea ferry that had a landing near the south end of the wharf.
The photo showing a small sailboat is rare where most photographs of the time recorded commercial shipping.
