Description
Thomas Long (1771-1861) born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and moved to Buckfield, where he lived most of his life.
He married Bathsheba Churchill in 1795 and the two of them were the grandparents of the Hon. John D. Long who was the secretary of the Navy under President William McKinley. He was noted for his honesty and integrity.
The picture of Thomas is noteworthy because of its early date, only 8 years after the first picture of a human face done in 1840.
