Description
A temporary footbridge to connect Spring's Island (Biddeford) to town over the Saco River, around 1915. The bridge connecting the island and town was under construction. The footbridge touches down next to the Saco-Pettee (Saco-Lowell) Machine Shops, the large industrial building in the left rear of the photograph. This is a rare view of the Elm Street, Biddeford houses and tenements which stood on the banks of the Saco. Two men can be seen standing on the footbridge, and laundry can be seen drying in back of the white house on the town side of the river.
