Description

Main Street and the corner of Alfred Street, Biddeford, ca. 1875. The wooden Hill's Block can be seen on the immediate left, and the white second-floor balconies of the Crystal Arcade can be seen in the right rear. The brick buildings of the Pepperell and Laconia Mills can be seen in the middle rear, and the steeple of the Pavilion Congregational Church is visible in the background. An interesting note is that all of the bystanders seen here are men. Also note the numerous barber poles!
