Description
This rare early image is a trimmed photo encased in a glass paperweight of Columbian Hall on School Street, new in 1892. The hall served Lubec as a public facility about 90 years until its demolition ca. 1977. “Hilltop School” (rebuilt twice) was to the left of the Hall. Note double gable at front. Built as shown on original construction drawings, modification to a single gable soon followed, purportedly because of moisture retention between the gables and resultant leakage. The parking lot for Lubec Town Hall, to left, occupies this site as of 2010.
