Description
The car ferry to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, was located at the end of upper Water Street in Lubec Village. North Lubec extends in the background. Locally called a "scow," it was operated by the Canadian government at no charge. The man standing in the foreground is believed to be Clyde Brown, also a keeper at Head Harbour Lighthouse, according to the book, "200 years of Lubec History 1776 - 1976." page 44. The opening of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Bridge on August 13 1962 ended the ferry’s usefulness.
