Description
Old Orchard Beach business district and Pier after the fire of August 15, 1907. According to Jeffrey A. Scully's excellent book, "The Old Orchard Beach", "The intense fire claimed the first 100 feet of the Pier. In order to save lives of the people trapped on the Pier, men began tearing up the planks, thus separating themselves from the fire. As is seen in the photo the intensity of the fire buckled the steel support beams. The chimney on the right is from the remains of the Hotel Emerson."
