Description
A handbill advertising Gould's Emporium, Shaw's Block, 219 Main Street, Biddeford for September 1869. The shop was listed as a millinery shop in the City Directory for 1870, however this states that dress making services were also available, as well as a ladies' reading room. The shop was owned by sisters Lucie and Nellie Gould; Lucie would have been 30 years old at the time this was printed. While they owned this shop they both lived in the family home at 72 Alfred Street.
