Description
The Hallowell Classical and Scientific Academy, built by the Congregational Conference, was a college preparatory school. It stood at the corner of Central and Warren Streets. The school served boys and girls and operated between the years of 1868 and 1888. Students from all over Maine attended the boarding school as well as tuition students from Hallowell. A list of students in 1874-5 includes students from New Brunswick, California and Illinois. Hallowell students moved to a new Hallowell High School in 1887.
