Chelsea Heights, Chelsea, ca. 1890

Contributed by Hubbard Free Library

Description

The east half of Chelsea was part of Hallowell until 1850. The Hallowell-Chelsea ferry wharf can be seen in what is now Butternut Park. The ferry was discontinued in the 1950s. The wooded area to the left is now owned by the Hallowell Water District and wells there provide Hallowell's water supply.
