Description
This old Lawrence Brothers North Lubec Canning Company factory was torn down ca. 1973. North Lubec was the original center of Lubec fishing industry, largely smoked herring then canned sardines. According to the book “200 Years of Lubec History 1776 - 1976,” a firm in nearby Eastport began marketing fish under the Eagle brand in 1875. “This, the first brand of Maine sardines, is still being sold by the North Lubec Manufacturing and Canning Company of North Lubec.”
