Description
Winfield Scott Reed wrote to Alice Wood, secretary of the Maine Association Opposed to Suffrage for Women, in reply to a letter from the organization.
He said he believed suffrage should be a state -- not a federal -- issue. He also said he believed people have a right to vote on whether to allow woman suffrage in Maine.
Reed was a Democrat serving in the Maine Legislature from Piscataquis County.
