Description
This view of Main Street at the end of the nineteenth century shows the bustle of the business district as Bangor experienced its boom years. Flags flutter from buildings and poles, the trolley tracks are hum with cars, and the sidewalks and businesses that line them are crowded with people; some of the women shield their complexions from the strong sun with parasols--including one sitting in a third-story window. Everything from confections to boots seems to be for sale, and the tower of the City Hall overlooks the scene.
