Description
View of Washington Street in foreground, meeting Water Street. The small white building was Matt Bell’s Barber Shop. Beyond and rising above is the R. J. Peacock Canning Company. Moving to the right are the Stuart Bowling Alley and two Peacock Company buildings. Between these Peacock buildings lies what appears to be a large salvaged tank. Note the fine old elm tree, common in Lubec as across America, destroyed by the ubiquitous Dutch Elm disease. According to Robert S. Peacock, the tree was found hollow when taken down. The barn-shaped roof at the extreme left appears to be the rear of the Donald Dodge Department store on the channel side of Water Street.
