Description
Hallowell artist Alger Veazie Currier was born in Hallowell in 1862. He studied painting in Paris in the late 1880s and had four paintings accepted for exhibition at the Salon. The photograph above shows "Portrait of myself" painted by one of his fellow students in 1888. Currier died in Hallowell in 1911 after a long illness.
Two of his paintings are on display at the Hubbard Free Library.
