Description
Josiah Pierce (1827-1913), a student at Bowdoin college, wrote to his father and his mother in Gorham, telling his father what books he was studying. He commented that many students already had left for the semester to teach in winter schools.
Pierce was trying to obtain a school to teach in during winter break.
He writes to his mother, as he often does, about the state of his clothing.
