Description
Josiah Pierce (1827-1913), serving with the American delegation in St. Petersburg, Russia, wrote to his father in Gorham to describe the Czar accepted a peace proposal.
He tells his father that he should not regard the "English Journals" as accurate in describing the peace prospects. He describes the advantages of peace to Russia and other countries.
Russia had been fighting the Crimean War against France and Britain since 1853.
