Description
Josiah Pierce, who had worked for two years as secretary to the American Legation in Russia, wrote to his father seeking his advice on taking a job with Winans, Harrison & Winans.
The American firm was managing the Moscow Railway and offered Pierce a job -- for five or six years -- to manage its correspondence with the Russian government.
He had been considering a further diplomatic post or returning to Maine. He wrote that he was being considered as Charge d'Affaires to Persia as well.
