Description
Josiah Pierce (1827-1913) wrote to his father in Gorham to tell him he had accepted the offer of a job with the Winans Co., which was managing the Moscow Railroad, and would return to Maine to see his family and conduct other business before starting the new job at the end of April.
Pierce guessed it would take him a month each way to get to the U.S. and back to Russia, that he'd spend a week in Washington, another week on the road, and have about a week to spend with his family.
He had been gone from Maine since the end of 1855.
