Description
The businesses on Water Street in Lubec around 1975 included the John C. Paige Insurance Company (where Maggie McGeorge had a hat shop), Robert Voight’s Wharf Shop (previously Martin Wilson‘s dry goods shop), and Conley’s Grocery. The stand-alone building, Roland Cheney’s Barber Shop, is on the site of the old Post Office. The partially-obscured building in the distance at the corner of Water and School Streets is known as the “Rexall Store,” and is the only one of these buildings still standing as of 2010. The old Merchant’s Hotel is visible on the rise above.
