Description
Arthur Lizotte of the Jacques Cartier Snowshoe Club of Lewiston poses after winning the marathon race from Lewiston to Biddeford as part of the American Snowshoe Union annual convention in Biddeford in March 1927.
Lizotte won the 52-mile race. The only rule for the event is that participants follow state roads and do not accept any rides. They can run, walk, stop and rest.
Alfred Cartier of Cercle Canadian of Lewiston finished second.
The race began in Lewiston at midnight. Lizotte and another runner were tied when they got to Portland and Lizotte began running, opening a lead that he kept.
