Description
The Bangor Children's Home was completed in 1869 following the design of Henry W. Hartwell. It was designed in memory of Sarah, the late wife of Franklin W. Pitcher, and built with $25,000 which he donated. Although it derived from the Bangor Female Orphan Asylum, chartered in 1839, the state legislature granted a new charter as the home was under construction allowing the admisison of boys. Samuel Prentiss later donated the adjoining lot for use as a playground. The building is now a day nursery.
