Description
In 1826, the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor, James Prince and Nicholas Rideout Jr., signed an indenture that placed Jacob Easters, son of Jesse Easters of Cumberland, into an apprenticeship with William Buxton of Cumberland, who was to teach Jacob Easters "the art, trade, or mystery of a Husbandman or Farmer," as well as teach and instruct him or cause him to be taught and instructed to read, write, and perform arithmetic. Jacob Easters was 12 years old in 1826, and was put into the care of William Buxton until February 19, 1835, when he would turn 21. At the end of the indenture, Benjamin was to receive "two suits of new wearing apparel, one suitable for Lords’ Day, and the other for working days, and a yoke of Young Cattle worth thirty dollars or that Sum in cash..."
William Buxton, to whom Jacob Easters was bound out, was a member of the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor in 1826.
Also in 1826, the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor bound out for indenture Samuel Easters, the son of Jesse Easters of Cumberland, and Benjamin Esters, the son of Jesse Esters of Cumberland. Cumberland Overseers of the Poor documents in the Town of Cumberland Archives list the family name as Easters, Esters and Estes.
