Description
The judges and starters at the match races between fast trotting horses on the Saco River, 1912. The trotters raced on ice at the stretch known as Long Reach above Poor Farm Hill, Biddeford; today this is the area near Rotary Park. The men appear to be having quite a good time already. Two men are identified in this picture: second from left is Frank Cole, and third from left is James O. "Honest Jim" Smith.
