Description
This photograph was taken from a distance and captures the camouflaged Thomas Hill Standpipe in the background during WWII. It was camouflaged so it wouldn't attract enemy planes who were looking for the newly built Dow Airfield. During the war, the standpipe's white coat of paint was covered up by a drab color of olive. The town also turned off all the lights on the top of the water tower, only to relight them at the end of the war.
