Description
Washington Street, County Route 189, ends here at Water Street and the Roosevelt Memorial Bridge to Campobello Island, just off the right side of this photograph.
The bridge was completed and opened in August, 1962. New approach construction is obvious by the fresh paving and modern street lamp. Lubec Narrows, the channel which separates Lubec from Campobello, is just beyond the buildings. To the left is the Eagle Theatre, known in one period as Lubec Cinema (not to be confused with Lubec Theatre on Water Street in the old Knights of Pythias building). The Eagle is listed in the 1950s with a seating capacity of 634 and a stage. Behind the white building near the center of the picture was then the location of the town wharf. The older buildings to the right were associated with Al Pike’s wharf, part of the Pike smoked fish stand.
