Description
Warren Street School, located in Hallowell's Italian neighborhood, was one of the city's neighborhood schools. Amina Neri, identified on the photograph with an "X" was one of the first Italian children born in Hallowell. His father, Protasio Neri was a skilled statuary cutter and worked for the Hallowell Granite Works. In later years, Amina told neighbors about Italian community gatherings and the perils of transporting massive granite blocks down Winthrop Hill to the cutting sheds on Franklin Street.
Warren Street School is now a private residence.
