Description
The newly constructed steel bridge crosses the Piscataquis River in the center of Guilford. This bridge replaced the original wooden covered bridge structure. In 1954, after 47 years of use, this steel bridge was dropped into the river prior to its dismantling. This steel bridge was replaced with the present day I-beam bridge. There was a temporary wooden foot bridge built across the river just west of the steel bridge during construction. The large building seen above the bridge was Guilford High School.
