Description
A mill in Blue Hill Falls operated by tidal currents near the causeway linking Mill Island with the mainland around 1880. Blue Hill Bay is in the background and the eastern shore of Blue Hill Bay is in the distant background. This area was the first settlement at Blue Hill and the first mills were built around this causeway, as indicated by the 1794 map of Blue Hill drawn by the first settled minister Jonathan Fisher. The shore around around the causeway was the site of mills and other commercial activity until the early 20th century.
