Description
This figure carved by Jonathan Fisher was used to tighten the rope grid that supported the mattress ticking on a bed. The legs of the figure were twisted around the ropes for tightening. One the ropes were tightened the bed would not sag and a person could "sleep tight."
In the Puritan way of life an object was often made to be both useful and beautiful hence the doll with its own cradle used for its storage.
