Description

An old note with the slippers says: "Were 150 years old Dec 1879. Mrs. John Gray’s Wedding Slippers, Mrs. Edward Goodings' Great Grandmother."

John Gray was probably the grandfather of John Gray b. Jan. 19, 1773. He and his wife Joanna were the parents of Susan B. Gray, who married Isaac Skillin in 1817. Two of their children were daughters Adelade G. Skillin, (Mrs. Edward Gooding) and Joanna Drinkwater Skillin, who married Robert Low in 1845.

If the date given for these slippers—1729—is correct, they would have been Phebe Chandler Gray’s slippers, the great-great grandmother of Adelade.

Nellie Leighton, a descendant, asks if the items belonged to Mrs. Andrew Gray, not Mrs. John Gray.
