Description
One of the first steps in ice harvesting at Cascade Pond was to cut holes in the ice and set up the loading table. Once the ice froze solid again around the table legs cakes of ice could be dragged up and then loaded on to the beds of sleds drawn by oxen or horses. Later gasoline-powered trucks were used to transport blocks of ice to the Arthur Moore ice house between Middle and Summer Streets.
