Description
Francis "Frank" W. Blanchard (1838-1926), who served in the Union Navy during the Civil War as paymaster on the steamer Yankee, was a longtime dairy farmer in Cumberland.
Blanchard's father, Ruben (1794-1887), a ship captain, settled on the farm in Cumberland in 1830.
Frank Blanchard began farming when he returned from the Civil War. He and his wife, Elizabeth, had two children. Their son Fred took over Spring Brook Farm.
