Description
Simon L. Berry built an oilcloth factory on Hinckley's Point in 1840. Dr. Amos Wilder bought the business in 1872 and manufactured oilcloth carpet. The Wilder plant continued operation after Dr. Wilder died in 1895, but a fire broke out in the carpet drying rolls near the engine room at 9 AM on January 13, 1900. Everything at the site was destroyed or severely damaged. The site was later occupied by the Glidden Box Factory, Tayntor Granite Works and the Mobil Oil Company.
