Description
A view of the Bangor freight yard of the Maine Central Railroad along the bank of the Penobscot. The bustle of trains and the vessel loading cargo demonstrate not only the boom in business for the railroad but also for the city. Although the exact date of the postcard is unknown, the intact covered toll bridge in the background places it before 1902, when a strong freshet washed away the central section, later replaced with a metal Warren truss.
