Description
Canning herring as sardines had become Lubec’s gold at the time of this photograph. A pair of sardine carriers are tied up at the Peacock Canning Company plant in the Lubec Channel, often called the Lubec Narrows. Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada, lies to the left. The average tidal variation in this channel of the Bay of Fundy is about 21 feet, the chilly waters rarely this calm.
