Description
The Very Rev. Msgr. Thomas M. Nelligan was the first principal of John Bapst High School in Bangor, where he was known as "the Deacon." He was principal of John Bapst from 1929 to 1933 and remained as a teacher at the school until 1942.
A graduate of Bangor High School, Rev. Msgr. Nelligan attended Holy Cross College and Grant Seminary in Montreal before being ordained to the priesthood in 1928. He was the nephew of Msgr. Thomas J. Nelligan and a brother of Rev. Francis J. Nelligan.
From 1942 to 1950, he was pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Lincoln, leaving in 1950 to become pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Orono until 1961. He was pastor of the St. Mary's Parish in Augusta until he retired in 1972. He died in Portland on February 17, 1985.
